Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Assessments
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD/ADD) is a condition that affects people's behaviour. Symptoms usually present as difficulty paying attention, remaining focused, staying still and acting on impulse. ADHD symptoms can have a significant impact on educational attainment, social situations and emotional wellbeing.
An assessment will help determine areas of difficulty and help put in place support, adaptations and strategies where appropriate. We offer assessments for under 18's only. We do not assess for children under 7 years old in line with NICE recommendations (https://www.nice.org.uk/guidance/ng87).
What happens as part of the assessment?
If you are unsure of what type of assessment your child may need then we would be happy to have an initial screening appointment to discuss this with you before booking an assessment (at additional cost, see fees)
Examples of different types of support that we might recommend:
Fees
Screening appointment to discuss whether assessment is needed (optional) = £130
Standard ADHD assessment = £1300
Additional Cognitive Assessment = £600
Important information
Assessments are carried out by qualified clinical psychologists who have training, expertise and experience in ADHD assessment and diagnosis, both in the NHS and in private clinical practice.
Payment for the assessment is for the time and expertise of the clinicians and is not contingent on receiving a diagnosis. It is not possible for us to be certain prior to the assessment if your child will reach diagnostic criteria or not.
Assessments are conducted in line with NICE guidelines, the regulatory guidance in the UK for healthcare. More information can be found on their website www.nice.org.uk
We are clinical psychologists and not medical prescribers. If your child is given a diagnosis and you wish to pursue medication options, we can recommend a private psychiatrist or we can send your diagnostic report to your GP who can refer you to NHS services. We will provide social and educational recommendations to support your child at home and school.
