Dr Anita Freeman (DClinPsy, PGDip, BSc)
Principal Clinical Psychologist
Adult and Child Mental Health, Anxiety and Mood Disorders, Health, bereavement and related concerns

Hello, my name is Anita. I am a Principal Clinical Psychologist with over fifteen years’ experience in a wide range of NHS psychological services including Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS), community and physical health. In my current NHS role, I work at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital providing psychological support to families. I am passionate about helping people of all ages (adults, children, and families) overcome difficulties with anxiety, low mood, identity, bereavement, and coping with physical health and traumatic life events. I will work collaboratively with you to create a friendly safe space and understand the value of the therapeutic relationship in the potentially daunting step of starting therapy.
I have experience of a range of therapeutic models that I draw upon to provide a holistic and adaptable approach. These include Narrative Therapy, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Compassion Focused, Acceptance and Commitment and family-based therapy. I believe everyone is unique, and therapy should always be based on an individual’s hopes and goals, together with an understanding of their experience, and their own societal and cultural context.
I am fully registered with the Health Care Professional Council as a Registered Clinical Psychologist: PYL27688. I work with Cigna and Aviva insurance providers. I am based in Central and North London.
Research
Alongside my NHS clinical experience I have published research in the areas of social identity and brain injury, developmental monitoring, quality of life for child following a brain tumour and the use of novel photography based narrative therapy interventions for children and young people following a medical diagnosis.
Selected publications
Freeman A, Ovin F, Moshal K, Grant K. (2022) Responding to the psychological needs of children following admission to paediatric Intensive Care for paediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome: A Narrative Therapy based Photography Workshop. Clinical Child Psychology and Psychiatry.
Bull, K., Stubley, S., Freeman, A et al. (2021) Child, parent, and clinician selection of patient-reported outcome measures to use in pediatric neuro-oncology outpatient follow-up clinics, Neuro-Oncology.
Stubley, S., Freeman, A., Liossi, C., et al. (2020) The Promote Study: Health-related quality of life communication needs for children, adolescents, and their families attending outpatient consultations after treatment for brain tumour. Neuro-Oncology.
