Dr Alexandra Kimber (DClinPsy, MSc, BSc)
Senior Clinical Psychologist
Adult and Child Mental Health, Neuropsychology

Hello, my name is Alex and I am a Clinical Psychologist. I completed my clinical psychology doctoral training at Salomons Institute for Applied Psychology and currently work at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital. I am based in Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
I am trained in a variety of therapy modalities and enjoy working flexibly and creatively within these, tailoring sessions to you or your child’s needs. My sessions primarily draw on principles from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). I am a creative and flexible therapist, aiming to provide a supportive and collaborative approach to therapy, working to support you or your child to understand their difficulties, finding strategies to support them, and working towards living a rich a fulfilling life in line with your values.
My areas of specialty include working with children and young people with physical health conditions, neurodevelopmental conditions, for example, Autism Spectrum Condition, ADHD and learning needs. I am experienced working with a wide range of difficulties including anxiety, self-esteem and identity, adjustment to a health condition or diagnosis and low mood. I also find working with families and the systems around young people incredibly useful and am experienced in supporting parents in relation to parenting a young person with a health condition or neurodevelopmental condition.
In addition to therapy, I conduct cognitive assessments to support individuals to understand their specific learning profile. Neuropsychology assessments can be useful in determining intellect, academic abilities, specific learning difficulties (e.g. dyslexia, dyscalculia, dyspraxia and dysgraphia), and memory and attention concerns. The assessment informs tailored supports and strategies to be put in place, including access arrangements.
I am fully registered with the Health Care Professional Council as a Registered Clinical Psychologist: PYL37754
Research
Prior to my doctoral training I completed research within the acquired brain injury field. My clinical psychology doctoral research was focussed on the link between physical exercise and wellbeing for young people with autism. This looked at sports coaches perspectives on strategies for increasing the accessibility of sports clubs and coaching techniques for young people with autism. I have since been interested in multidisciplinary research within clinical health settings.
